Namibia Launches $2.5 Billion Energy Project to Boost Regional Growth

The President of Namibia, Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, has announced a major investment in the country with the launch of the $2.5 billion Dangote Namibia Tank Farm and Regional Pipeline Project. The event took place in Walvis Bay and was described by the president as a significant milestone for Africa’s industrial future.

During her speech, Nandi-Ndaitwah praised Aliko Dangote, the head of Dangote Industries Limited, for his commitment to investing in Africa. She noted that this project highlights the potential of African entrepreneurs to drive economic growth and transformation across the continent.

The project includes a large petroleum storage facility with a capacity of 600 million liters and a pipeline network stretching about 1,700 kilometers. This infrastructure is expected to improve fuel supply reliability, lower transportation costs, and support economic development in Southern Africa.

According to Nandi-Ndaitwah, this investment aligns with Namibia’s development goals and the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area, creating new jobs and opportunities for skills development.

Aliko Dangote also spoke at the launch, stating that the investment is part of a larger vision to create interconnected production and distribution centers across Africa. He mentioned that the facility will store 360 million liters of diesel and 240 million liters of petrol, connecting Namibia to markets in several neighboring countries.

Dangote emphasized the importance of making fuel more affordable for landlocked countries in the region. He also revealed plans to increase his company’s total investment in Africa from $50 billion to $60 billion by 2030, indicating a strong commitment to further expansion.
