Nigeria’s Flamingos Make History by Defeating Brazil to Reach U-17 Women’s World Cup Final

Nigeria’s Flamingos have made history by reaching the final of the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup for the first time. They achieved this milestone by defeating Brazil 3-1 in their semi-final match held in Morocco.

The match saw a strong performance from the Flamingos, especially in the second half. After a scoreless first half, Queen Joseph put Nigeria ahead in the 56th minute with a goal assisted by Oluwakemi Adegubyi. The Flamingos then doubled their lead in the 71st minute when Awawu Bashiru scored, with Joseph providing the assist again.

Bashiru scored once more in the 80th minute, making it 3-0 for Nigeria. Brazil managed to score a late goal in the 89th minute through Greise Kelly, but it was not enough to change the outcome of the game.

This victory marks a remarkable turnaround for the Flamingos, who started the tournament with a 2-1 loss to Poland. They bounced back with a 2-0 win against Puerto Rico and then defeated defending champions North Korea 3-1, ending North Korea’s long unbeaten streak in the competition.

In the knockout stages, the Flamingos won against Mexico 2-1 in the Round of 16 and edged out Venezuela 1-0 in the quarter-finals, thanks to an 89th-minute penalty by Azeezat Oduntan.

With this win, the Flamingos will face Japan in the final. Japan earned their spot by defeating the defending champions North Korea in the other semi-final. This final will be a significant moment for the Flamingos, as they aim for their first title in this competition.
