President Tinubu Rewards Super Falcons with $100,000 After WAFCON Win

The Super Falcons have won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) ten times. Recently, President Bola Tinubu honored his promise of $100,000 to the team after their remarkable victory at the 2025 tournament, where Nigeria secured a record-extending 10th title.

According to the National Sports Commission, the players are now receiving payments totaling about ₦140 million, which is the naira equivalent of the promised reward. The Super Falcons achieved this victory by coming back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the host team, Morocco, in the final held in July 2025.

Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade thanked President Tinubu for fulfilling his promise, calling it a meaningful recognition of their achievement and contribution to Nigerian sports. This payment showcases the President’s commitment to acknowledging and rewarding sporting excellence.

President Tinubu had also rewarded members of the D’Tigress, Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, with $100,000 after their win at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, where they claimed their fifth consecutive title.

The National Sports Commission praised President Tinubu for his ongoing support of Nigerian athletes. They noted that his actions help build confidence among athletes and sports officials, while promoting a culture of recognition and national pride.
