Super Falcons Receive $100,000 Each as Tinubu Fulfills Reward Promise

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have received the naira equivalent of $100,000 each as a reward for winning the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. Their coaches and officials received $50,000 each. This payment completes President Bola Tinubu’s promise to the team for their achievement.

The National Sports Commission announced the payments on Monday, stating that the Federal Government has fulfilled its financial commitment to the team. The Super Falcons won their record-extending 10th WAFCON title in July 2025.

Along with the cash rewards, players also received title documents for three-bedroom apartments in Abuja and certificates of national honor. Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for honoring his commitment. He noted that this fulfillment of promises is a significant change from the past, where athletes often waited years for rewards.

Dikko emphasized that this swift action shows that athletes can trust their efforts will be recognized and rewarded. He said, “Our athletes can take encouragement from this and prepare to represent Nigeria with confidence.”

The Super Falcons secured their latest title by coming back from a two-goal deficit to defeat Morocco 3-2 in the final held in Rabat. President Tinubu announced the rewards during a reception for the team on July 28, 2025.

This payment follows a similar reward given to Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, who also received $100,000 each after winning their fifth consecutive Women’s AfroBasket title in 2025. The government has been consistent in rewarding its sports teams, as seen with the Super Eagles receiving similar honors after their performance in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
