Kenya Reports Eighth Case of Ebola Amid Ongoing Health Crisis

Kenyan health officials have confirmed the country’s eighth case of Ebola. The latest patient is a 49-year-old man who has shown symptoms such as fever, headaches, and muscle pain. Patrick Amoth, the director of the health ministry, shared this information during an interview with Citizen TV.

The man had been in quarantine since October 9. He worked as support staff at a health facility, where he likely contracted the virus while handling laundry in the room of the first confirmed Ebola patient in Kenya.

The first case was reported on October 6. This initial patient was a businessman from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where a significant outbreak has been ongoing. He traveled to Kenya and died shortly after arriving.

The seven other confirmed cases in Kenya are either relatives of the first patient or health workers who treated him. All of them are currently in stable condition, according to health officials.

In neighboring Uganda, there have been 20 reported cases of Ebola, mostly linked to the outbreak in the DRC. Uganda had previously declared an end to its own outbreak in August.

Kenyan health authorities are actively tracing contacts of the Ebola cases. They have identified 130 individuals, with 128 of them already located and placed in quarantine.

The DRC is facing a severe epidemic, with over 9,000 cases and more than 4,300 deaths reported by local health authorities.
