Nursing Mother Seeks Divorce and Monthly Allowance in Kaduna Court
A nursing mother named Firdausi Ahmad has taken her husband, Malam Anas, to a Shari’a Court in Kaduna. She is seeking a divorce and a monthly payment of N10,000 to support breastfeeding their eight-month-old daughter.
According to her lawyer, Malam Sani Sunusi, Firdausi and Anas have been married for three years. The lawyer explained that Anas told Firdausi to return to her parents’ home until he gives her permission to come back. Since then, he has not checked on her or their child.
Firdausi is asking the court to end their marriage through a process called Khul’i, which allows a woman to initiate a divorce. She is also willing to return the N100,000 dowry she received when they married.
The court has scheduled another hearing for November 11, where Firdausi will present her witness or evidence. The judge, Malam Yakubu Abdullahi, has instructed the court registrar to send a letter inviting Anas to attend the next hearing.
