PDP Candidate Calls for Election Audit Ahead of 2027 General Election

Babatunde Faro, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Akure North/Akure South Federal Constituency in Ondo, is calling for changes to the electoral process before the 2027 general election. He spoke to journalists in Akure, the state capital, on Wednesday, urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to review the 2023 elections and fix any problems that were found.

Faro highlighted issues with the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) and the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) during the last elections. He warned that similar problems should not happen again in 2027. He stressed the need for INEC to improve its processes to ensure that voters’ choices are respected.

He expressed hope that INEC would conduct an audit of the previous election and address the shortcomings before the next polls. Faro mentioned that while a perfect election might not be possible, achieving a 95 percent success rate would be a significant improvement.

Additionally, he called on INEC to follow the rules in the Electoral Act regarding the publication of the electronic voter register. Faro is optimistic that the issues affecting elections will be resolved in time for the 2027 general election.

On his plans if elected to the House of Representatives, Faro promised to provide open and accountable representation. He aims to focus on empowering youth and women, creating communication platforms for constituents, and bringing federal projects to the area. He emphasized his commitment to being accessible to the people and ensuring that Akure North and Akure South benefit from government programs.
