Oyo Students’ Group Promotes Legal Awareness in Secondary Schools

The National Association of Oyo Students (NAOS) has finished a program aimed at teaching legal awareness and civic responsibility to secondary school students in Oyo State. This outreach, called the Student Legal and Civic Awareness Outreach, took place across four schools in the region.

The initiative started on September 30 at Ojogbondu in Oyo West and continued to Oke Olola High School in Atiba on October 7, Awe High School in Afijio on October 14, and concluded on October 21 at Anglican Methodist School II in Oyo East.

During the outreach, students learned about important topics such as the law, civic duties, anti-cultism, cybercrime, and drug abuse. They also received career guidance from successful alumni who hosted the events at each school.

Notable alumni included Hon. Alarape Ibrahim Ayinla, Olagoke Akinlabi Eesuola, Professor Raufu Mufutau Oyedapo, and Ambassador Rahmon Wasiu Ishola. These hosts shared their experiences and offered advice on career choices and personal development.

Toheeb Opeyemi Bello, the Chief Judge of the NAOS Judiciary Arm, explained that the program aimed to equip young people with knowledge about the law and their responsibilities as citizens. He emphasized the importance of teaching students before they encounter situations where this knowledge is crucial.

The outreach not only focused on legal education but also aimed to strengthen the bond between schools, alumni, and the community. By engaging with students, the organizers hoped to inspire them to take their education and civic duties seriously.
