President Tinubu Calls on States to Use Increased Revenues Wisely for Citizens’ Benefit
President Bola Tinubu has urged state governments in Nigeria to wisely use their increased revenues. He emphasized the importance of focusing on projects that improve the quality of life for citizens. This statement was made in a release from the State House on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Tinubu’s call follows a report from the World Bank, which highlights how higher revenues are changing state priorities. The President noted that his administration’s economic reforms are showing positive results and helping to stabilize the economy.
He explained that tough decisions, such as removing fuel subsidies and unifying the foreign exchange market, have led to increased revenues. These changes are meant to create a better environment for growth and improve living standards for all Nigerians.
Tinubu also mentioned that his government will continue to focus on inclusive growth. This includes expanding cash transfers, enhancing agricultural productivity, and improving access to healthcare and education. He stressed the need for state governments to prioritize projects that benefit the public.
The World Bank’s report indicates that despite global conflicts, Nigeria’s economy grew by 4.2% in the first half of 2026, a rise from 3.9% the previous year. The report also noted a significant drop in inflation and an increase in the country’s external reserves.
According to Tinubu, the reforms since 2023 have resulted in a 69% increase in federal revenues, with states benefiting the most. He praised the cooperation of the Economic Management Team, state governors, and other stakeholders in implementing these reforms.
