Arsenal Comes Back to Defeat Leeds 2-1 with Guimaraes’ Late Goal
Arsenal staged a comeback to defeat Leeds United 2-1 in a Premier League match at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. Bruno Guimaraes scored the winning goal after coming off the bench.
Leeds took the lead in the 56th minute when James Justin scored. Arsenal quickly equalized five minutes later with a goal from Riccardo Calafiori. Guimaraes then secured the victory for Arsenal in the 69th minute.
In the first half, Leeds threatened to score, but Arsenal’s goalkeeper David Raya made several key saves to keep the score level. Arsenal had a chance early in the second half when Noni Madueke set up Martin Odegaard, but his shot was saved.
Leeds went ahead after Gabriel Gudmundsson made a run down the left and crossed the ball into the box, where Justin scored despite a defensive effort from Gabriel.
Arsenal responded when Madueke delivered a cross that Ben White headed to Calafiori, who found the net to level the game. After that, Guimaraes was brought on along with Viktor Gyokeres and Jurrien Timber.
Guimaraes made a significant impact after a series of passes involving Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, and Declan Rice. Rice’s backheel set up Guimaraes, who shot into the bottom corner to put Arsenal ahead.
Arsenal had chances to extend their lead, but Saka was denied by Leeds goalkeeper James Trafford in the final moments. This victory marks Arsenal’s fifth win in their first six matches of the season.
Arsenal will next face Lille in the Champions League on Tuesday, followed by a match against Nottingham Forest the following Sunday. They are also scheduled to play Bayern Munich on October 21.
