Cristiano Ronaldo Suspended by Portugal After Leaving National Team
Cristiano Ronaldo has been provisionally suspended by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) following his walkout from the national team. This decision was announced on Saturday, with the FPF stating that disciplinary actions have started against the 41-year-old player.
Ronaldo left the team after being made to warm up as a substitute in a match against Norway on September 27, but he was not brought into the game. He also learned he would not start against Denmark in a match on October 1.
In a recent statement, Ronaldo apologized to fans and criticized Portugal’s coach, Jorge Jesus. He expressed that he would accept any punishment handed down by the federation. The FPF described the situation as urgent and confirmed that Ronaldo is currently suspended while awaiting a final decision on his punishment.
According to Portuguese media, players who miss training sessions or matches can face suspensions ranging from one to six months. Ronaldo stated he is not retiring from international play and will be available to compete for the national team after serving any potential suspension.
Ronaldo claimed that Coach Jesus broke a promise about giving him playing time. He also mentioned that he felt disrespected by being asked to warm up without being sent into the game. Jesus has not publicly responded to Ronaldo’s comments but indicated he would consider Ronaldo for future matches if he is performing well at his club.
Portugal has been successful in the Nations League, winning all four of their matches and securing a spot in the quarter-finals. They will play Denmark on November 14 and Wales on November 17 in their final group matches.
Recently, Ronaldo returned to club football with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, where he scored his 980th career goal in a match against Diriyah.
