Suspected Thugs Attack ADC Campaign in Edo, Leaving One Injured

The political climate in Edo State has become increasingly dangerous after an attack on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) campaign train in Igueben Local Government Area on Tuesday evening. The attack involved gunfire aimed at party leaders, including Kenneth Imasuangbon and Herbert Okonofua, who narrowly escaped harm.

The ADC claims that the attackers were political supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and were led by Endurance Azemegbe, the local government chairman. During the incident, an ADC supporter named Jerry Oliha was reportedly shot and is currently receiving medical treatment at Irrua Specialist Hospital.

This attack marks the third instance of violence against the ADC within Igueben, following earlier shootings in Wards 4 and 5. The ADC has expressed concern that these incidents are part of a larger trend of violence against opposition groups in the state.

In a statement, Chris Ojeikere, the ADC’s State Publicity Secretary, condemned the attack, describing it as a coordinated effort to intimidate opposition members. He noted that the incident occurred while ADC leaders were engaged in political activities in the area.

Azemegbe has denied any involvement in the attack, claiming he was not present in Igueben at the time. He stated he would investigate the matter further. Meanwhile, the Edo State Police have yet to confirm the incident but indicated they would look into it once formally reported.
