Kebbi Teachers’ Union Rejects Claims of Poor Education Funding in Viral Video

The Kebbi State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has rejected a viral video that claims the state is poorly funding education and not paying teachers enough. The union called the video old and edited, saying it misrepresents the government’s efforts in education.

Zaki Sarki, the NUT Chairman, stated that the video is misleading and seems to be an attempt to damage the reputation of Governor Nasir Idris. He accused individuals behind the video of being supported by opposition politicians who want to stir unrest among teachers and workers.

Sarki emphasized that the claims in the video ignore significant improvements made by the Idris administration. He noted that the government has raised teachers’ salaries to N75,000, which is above the minimum wage, as part of its efforts to enhance workers’ welfare.

He also highlighted the construction of large schools in all four emirates, the building of over 2,500 classrooms, the hiring of more than 2,000 teachers, and the provision of furniture and learning materials as proof of the government’s commitment to education.

The NUT Chairman criticized the video for portraying the education sector as neglected, despite visible improvements under the current administration. He urged opposition politicians and critics to differentiate between valid criticism and the spread of false information.

As Nigeria prepares to celebrate World Teachers’ Day in 2026, the union plans to continue working with the government to address teachers’ concerns and enhance education quality in Kebbi State.
