Delta NDC Candidate Urges Accountability and Job Creation in State

Chris Iyovwaye, the governorship candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Delta State, has called for improved accountability and job creation in the region. His comments came in a statement released on Friday, following Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s Independence Day message.

In his response, Iyovwaye emphasized that the people of Delta have made significant sacrifices and deserve leadership that reflects this commitment. He criticized the governor’s call for sacrifice, stating that real sacrifice should be evident in the state budget.

He urged the governor to provide a detailed report on how the state has spent its revenue from the Federation Account. Iyovwaye questioned how much of the funds were allocated to job-creating projects versus other expenses.

Iyovwaye also highlighted the potential for job creation through the state’s ports, suggesting that the four ports in Delta could provide employment for around 50,000 people. He believes that government actions should lead to better living conditions and more opportunities for residents.

He further stressed the importance of basic infrastructure and public services, stating that democracy should ensure access to clean water, good roads, and quality education and healthcare.

While acknowledging the state’s increase of the minimum wage to N77,500, Iyovwaye pointed out that rising living costs remain a significant issue for many residents. He called for a “reset” in governance that focuses on transparency, industrialization, and real job creation.

In conclusion, Iyovwaye encouraged Deltans to stay engaged in state affairs, combining prayer with civic responsibility, as he believes accountability is crucial for the region’s future.
