Omokri: Stop Blaming Government for Train Accidents, ‘It Happens Everywhere’
Former presidential aide and social commentator Reno Omokri has weighed in on the issue of train accidents, urging Nigerians to be more objective and avoid automatically blaming the government. In a video posted on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Omokri shared a personal anecdote of a train delay he experienced abroad after a collision.
“The thing is, accidents like this happen all the time,” Omokri said, explaining that the train he was on had to stop after another train ahead collided with a car. “They happen in Canada, they happen in the United States, they happen in Europe.” He used the incident as a teachable moment to address what he called a “culture of perpetual blame” in Nigeria.
Omokri’s comments come on the heels of a recent train derailment on the Abuja-Kaduna line on August 26, 2025, an incident that left several people injured and sparked renewed public outrage and criticism of the National Railway Corporation (NRC) and the government.
“If this were to be Nigeria, for example, you guys would complain about the government,” he stated, reinforcing his point that such incidents are not unique to the country. He urged Nigerians to appreciate the progress being made in the railway sector and to “look for good things about the country and project that to the outside world.”
