75 Nasarawa Residents Smile Home with N250k Business Grants
Dozens of small-scale entrepreneurs and less-privileged residents in Nasarawa North Senatorial District have received a major financial lifeline to start and grow their local businesses.
A total of 75 beneficiaries picked from Akwanga, Wamba, and Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Areas received N250,000 cash grants each, bringing the total financial aid package to N18.75 million. The empowerment initiative, funded by Dr. Kassim Muhammed-Kassim, Executive Chairman of the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB), was officially launched by Governor Abdullahi Sule in Akwanga.
Flagging off the disbursement, Governor Sule praised the board chairman for giving back directly to the grassroots. The governor noted that getting N250,000 directly into the hands of petty traders is one of the most generous individual empowerment efforts seen in the state, urging the beneficiaries to manage the funds wisely and turn their small trade into thriving enterprises.
Explaining the idea behind the gesture, Dr. Kassim revealed that he did not know any of the recipients personally and that selection was done purely based on need rather than political affiliation. He added that the money was generated entirely from the proceeds of his personal business supplying school uniforms to Ghana, encouraging the beneficiaries to show dedication in their business ventures to help cushion current economic challenges.
Speaking on behalf of the recipients, beneficiaries expressed deep appreciation for the unexpected financial boost and promised to utilize the capital strictly for petty trading. Meanwhile, Dr. Kassim assured residents that a second phase of the empowerment drive will soon roll out, targeting another 300 residents with N50,000 seed funds each across the district.
