Zamfara Electoral Chief Calls for Cooperation Ahead of 2027 Elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is preparing for the 2027 general elections in Zamfara State. Dr. Mahmud Isah, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, spoke about this during a meeting with stakeholders in Gusau on Wednesday.
Isah stressed that for the elections to be successful, there needs to be careful planning, effective use of resources, good security coordination, ongoing voter education, and cooperation from all involved parties. He thanked stakeholders for their support during the recent Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) process.
He also mentioned the recent display of the Register of Voters for Claims and Objections and the completion of the ward-level Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection exercise on October 15, 2026. These efforts show a shared commitment to conducting peaceful and credible elections in the state.
As of the last elections in 2023, Zamfara had nearly 2 million registered voters. The recent voter registration exercise added over 300,000 new registrations, highlighting the need for ongoing voter engagement and education.
Isah encouraged traditional and religious leaders, political parties, community leaders, civil society groups, and the media to promote awareness about PVC collection. He reiterated INEC’s commitment to transparency and proper record-keeping during this process.
The stakeholders’ meeting included officials from INEC, security agencies, political parties, and the media, all discussing how to work together for the upcoming elections.
