Wike Fires Fresh Salvo at Ireti Kingibe, Vows She Won’t Return to the Senate in 2027

The political battle lines in the nation’s capital have been drawn deeper as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, launched a blistering attack on the senator representing the FCT, Ireti Kingibe, insisting she is on her way out of the upper legislative chamber.

Wike made the remarks during an inspection tour of ongoing road and infrastructure projects across Abuja, reacting angrily to recent claims by the senator that the FCTA had accumulated heavy debts and executed capital financing without the statutory backing of the National Assembly.

Dismissing Kingibe’s assertions as a demonstration of a weak grasp of public finance and legislative procedures, Wike explained that government borrowing is transparently integrated into budgetary approvals. He expressed frustration that rather than evaluating whether infrastructural loans are visibly transforming the capital, the lawmaker has chosen to peddle what he termed unfounded claims.

“Assuming I took a loan, our concern should have been: are we applying the loan to fulfill the interest of residents?” Wike stated. “She believes that with the kind of infrastructure we are doing, we must have taken a loan. Too bad for her. Too bad.”

Turning his focus to the 2027 political horizon, Wike asserted that residents of the territory have rejected the senator’s legislative representation due to a lack of meaningful developmental impact. He signaled full executive backing for former three-term FCT senator Philip Aduda, pitching him as the preferred alternative to reclaim the seat.

“I don’t want to comment about her. She is already packing her things out,” Wike declared. “The people of the FCT have made their choice. They are going to support President Tinubu and Philip Aduda for Senate.”
