Wike Dismisses Turaki’s Call for Trump’s Intervention, Insists Nigeria’s Democracy is Stable and Not Under Threat

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, today, Wednesday, November 19, 2025, delivered a strong and public rebuttal to the claims made by the factional National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), insisting that Nigeria’s democracy remains stable and is under no threat.

Wike’s sharp reaction was triggered by Turaki’s dramatic televised plea on Tuesday, where the PDP factional leader not only claimed that democracy was threatened but also called on President Donald Trump and the international community to intervene and “save Nigeria.”

Speaking while receiving the Board and Management of the South-South Development Commission (SSDC) in Abuja, Wike dismissed Turaki’s statements as “reckless political indulgence” and irresponsible theatrics, arguing that they were aimed at creating national anxiety during a purely internal party crisis.

Accusation of National Security Threat

The Minister did not mince words, classifying Turaki’s narrative—particularly the allegation of a “Christian Genocide” and the subsequent call for foreign intervention as a direct “national security threat.”

“Look at what someone said yesterday. You have internal crises in your own party, yet you go on national television claiming there is genocide against Christians… Essentially, you are telling the world that this government is committing genocide,” Wike asserted. “Some are even calling Trump to ‘save their democracy.’ How can you call an outsider to save you when you can’t obey a simple court order?

Wike stressed that the country’s democracy is stable and that the true source of chaos stems from politicians who disregard court judgments and attempt to blame the Federal Government for their internal party failures. He insisted that Turaki and his faction should focus on obeying the rule of law within the PDP before raising false alarms on the national stage.

The heated exchange further escalates the crisis within the PDP, which saw both the Wike-led and Turaki-led factions expel each other’s members earlier this week, leading to violent clashes at the party’s national secretariat.
