Tinubu’s Ex-Spokesman Explains Why APC Governors Are Pushing Back Against Wike’s Political Influence

The underlying friction between governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has been brought into sharper focus, with a former presidential aide explaining the strategic anxieties driving the pushback.

According to Daniel Bwala, a former presidential spokesman, the unease among APC governors is rooted in concerns over party integrity, political territory, and long-term electoral positioning. Wike, a prominent chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) serving in the ruling APC administration, has continued to wield substantial political clout through cross-party alignments often referred to in political circles as a “Rainbow Coalition.”

Bwala noted that while President Bola Tinubu’s inclusion of opposition figures in governance was designed to foster a government of national unity and broad-based stability, it has inevitably triggered anxiety among loyal party governors. These governors are reportedly wary of potential compromises to party structures and regional influence as the political landscape shifts toward the 2027 general elections.

“APC governors are naturally protective of their political turf,” analysts observe, noting that fears over internal displacement and the reconfiguration of party power blocks have fueled quiet resistance against Wike’s expanding sphere of influence.

Despite the tensions, political pundits maintain that President Tinubu continues to balance strategic governance imperatives with the political sensitivities of his party base, even as opposition figures and ruling party stalwarts jostle for strategic footing ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.
