President Tinubu Sends Three Key Bills to Senate for Consideration
President Bola Tinubu has sent several important bills to the Senate for review. This includes a proposal to reform the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), changes to the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau Act, and the creation of a National School of Government.
The NDLEA Bill 2026 aims to create a stronger legal framework for the agency. It is designed to enhance the agency’s ability to investigate people suspected of drug-related crimes.
Another bill, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau Amendment Bill 2026, seeks to make the bureau an independent authority. This bill would also shift oversight of the bureau to the Presidency and modify its management structure.
Additionally, the National School of Government Bill (ASCON) 2026 aims to replace the existing Administrative Staff College of Nigeria Act. This new school would focus on governance training and improving public sector capabilities.
President Tinubu has also proposed a bill to incorporate the four Geneva Conventions of 1949 and their two Additional Protocols from 1977 into Nigerian law. These agreements are meant to protect victims of war and hold accountable those who commit serious crimes like genocide and war crimes.
