Sotayo Gaga Packs Lekki Hotel for Star-Studded 4-Day Private Watch Party of Her New Movie Osun Dagbonu

Nollywood star Tayo Sobola, famously known as Sotayo Gaga, stepped away from standard distribution models to host an exclusive, four-day private watch party for her hit movie, Osun Dagbonu, offering her dedicated fanbase a premium, communal viewing experience.

The intimate screening event ran from Thursday, June 18, to Sunday, June 21, 2026, taking over a private lounge at the Vintano Hotel in Lekki, Lagos. Rather than dropping the movie strictly into commercial cinema circuits, the filmmaker used the gathering to share a high-end theatrical environment with everyday movie lovers, content creators, and top-tier entertainment executives. High-profile celebrities like Lateef Adedimeji, Lola Idije, and Seyi Edun were spotted in attendance, turning up to support Sobola’s latest creative venture.

Osun Dagbonu centers on a deeply relatable but gripping narrative that balances modern corporate life with traditional realities. The plot follows a top-performing career woman whose life takes a terrifying downward turn right after securing a multi-million naira contract. When she suddenly loses her voice and composure during a crucial presentation, it becomes clear that her professional success has made her the target of deep-seated jealousy and unseen spiritual forces. While the intense psychological drama is already drawing significant traffic online, the actress emphasized that watching it together in a shared room brings out a completely different emotional reaction compared to viewing it alone on a phone or television set.

Speaking to journalists during the event’s closing run, Sobola discussed why she decided to make YouTube the primary home for the movie, noting that standard cinema pricing often cuts off a massive portion of the audience who truly want to see the story.

“Honestly, I just wanted the movie to get to the right places. If it had gone to the cinema, not everyone would have had access to see it, and the audience might have been limited. That was why I decided to release it on YouTube,” Sobola explained. She also challenged the audience to reconsider their views on cultural heritage. “This is the type of movie we should be putting out now. Religion has really affected us as Africans, and we need to revisit African spirituality. It is not evil; people have only changed the narrative about it, which is why many shy away from it. Thank God our people are gradually waking up and beginning to understand it better.”

As the event wrapped up over the weekend, industry insiders praised Sobola’s grassroots distribution strategy. By pairing a free, wide-reaching online release with a targeted, high-profile watch party, the actress has shown a creative way to generate buzz and maintain a close, authentic connection with her audience in the modern Nollywood landscape.
