Rivers Court Hammers Lawmakers, Blocks Impeachment Plot Against Fubara; ‘No Removal Without My Say-So,’ Judge Declares!

Rivers Court Hammers Lawmakers, Blocks Impeachment Plot Against Fubara; ‘No Removal Without My Say-So,’ Judge Declares!

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has scored a “legal knockout” in the ongoing power struggle for the soul of Rivers State. A High Court in Port Harcourt has officially pulled the handbrake on the attempt by the State House of Assembly to impeach the Governor, ordering all parties to stay their hands.

The court’s decision is a major blow to the lawmakers who have been pushing for Fubara’s exit. With this new injunction, any move to serve an impeachment notice or hold a sitting to remove the Governor would be a direct violation of a court order something that carries heavy legal consequences.

The tension in Rivers has been at a breaking point for months, with the Assembly split down the middle and constant rumors of an “impeachment coup” being hatched behind closed doors. However, Fubara’s legal team successfully argued that the process being followed by the lawmakers was not just politically motivated, but legally flawed.

“The Governor can now focus on serving the people of Rivers without looking over his shoulder every five minutes,” a legal aide to the Governor said following the ruling.

While the “anti-Fubara” lawmakers are expected to challenge this order, for now, the Governor remains firmly in the driver’s seat. The streets of Port Harcourt remain calm but watchful, as the political drama shifts from the halls of the Assembly to the chambers of the court.
