Police Officers Attacked by Bandits in Zamfara, Casualties Reported

Bandits attacked police officers in Zamfara, Nigeria, on Monday, leading to fears of fatalities among the officers. The ambush took place while the officers were traveling in a mass transit bus known as Bazamfara along the Sokoto–Gusau road.

Sources suggest that the officers were heading to Gusau, the state capital, to provide security for an ongoing primary election for the All Progressives Congress in the Zamfara North Senatorial District.

While some officers are reported dead, the exact number of casualties is still unclear. Additionally, some officers were reportedly taken by the bandits during the attack.

The police force has not released detailed information about the incident. The Public Relations Officer for the Zamfara State Police Command stated that he could not comment as it falls under the zonal command’s jurisdiction. The Zone 10 Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Ambursa, confirmed the attack but is currently hospitalized and unable to provide further details.
