Plateau State Offers Free Medical Services to 6,000 Residents

Plateau State in North-Central Nigeria is set to launch a two-week free medical outreach aimed at reaching 6,000 residents. This initiative starts on Monday, October 19, 2026, and will take place across the state’s three senatorial zones.

The outreach is organized by the Plateau State Government in partnership with ICZ Germany Medical Specialists. It will kick off in the central and southern zones, with the northern zone joining the program on October 26.

Services offered during this outreach include specialist consultations, diagnostic tests, surgeries, and cancer screenings. Residents in the southern zone will receive care at the General Hospital in Shendam, while those in the central zone will go to the General Hospital in Mangu. In the northern zone, services will be available at the Plateau State Specialist Hospital in Jos and the Trauma Hospital in Riyom.

According to Nicholas Baamlong, the Commissioner for Health in Plateau State, this initiative aims to improve access to quality healthcare, especially for those who cannot afford essential medical services. The outreach will provide a range of healthcare services, including general medical consultations, surgeries, and eye care.

Patients needing more advanced care will be referred to the Plateau State Specialist Hospital in Jos to ensure they continue to receive necessary treatment. The outreach in Shendam and Mangu will run until October 30, while activities in Jos and Riyom will continue until November 6.

The commissioner urged residents facing health issues to take advantage of this opportunity. He also called on community leaders and organizations to help spread the word, particularly in rural areas where access to healthcare can be limited.
