Peter Obi Declares He Will Only Respond Directly to Fellow Presidential Candidates Ahead of 2027

The presidential campaign organization of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has announced a major shift in its communication strategy, declaring that the candidate will henceforth ignore attacks and commentaries from political proxies, party spokespersons, and surrogates.

According to an official statement released by Obi’s media office, the opposition flagbearer will restrict his engagements and public responses strictly to fellow presidential candidates vying for the office in the upcoming January 2027 general elections.

The campaign office noted that the decision was taken to eliminate unnecessary political noise and refocus national attention on substantive governance issues. The handlers argued that the political space is frequently cluttered by appointees and party spokespersons trading trivial insults, which detracts from the urgent policy debates required to rescue Nigeria from its current economic and security travails.

“Moving forward, Peter Obi will only dignify direct conversations and debates initiated by fellow presidential standard-bearers who are directly accountable to the Nigerian electorate,” the statement emphasized.

The policy shift aligns with Obi’s repeated public challenges urging all major contenders—including incumbent President Bola Tinubu of the APC and other leading opposition figures—to step out of the shadows of campaign machinery and subject their manifestos, past public records, and economic strategies to direct public scrutiny.
