Peter Obi Claims He Won 2023 Election Despite Lack of Evidence

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, recently stated that he believes he won the 2023 presidential election, even though he has no evidence to support this claim. Obi made these comments during an interview with BBC Africa.

When asked if he had any proof of his victory, Obi replied, “There’s no evidence. Everything is not based on evidence.” Despite this admission, he reiterated his belief that he was the true winner of the election.

Obi participated in the presidential election held on February 25, 2023, under the Labour Party, where he finished third according to results from the Independent National Electoral Commission. Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress was declared the winner with nearly 8.8 million votes, while Atiku Abubakar from the Peoples Democratic Party came in second with about 7 million votes. Obi received over 6 million votes.

After the election results were announced, Obi and the Labour Party contested the outcome at the Presidential Election Petitions Court, claiming there were irregularities and violations of electoral laws. However, the tribunal dismissed their petition on September 6, 2023, confirming Tinubu’s victory.

Obi then took his case to the Supreme Court, but on October 26, 2023, the court also rejected his appeal, stating it lacked merit. Despite these legal setbacks, Obi continues to assert that the election results do not accurately reflect the will of Nigerian voters.
