Pan-Atlantic University’s School of Media and Communication Marks 20 Years of Impact

The School of Media and Communication (SMC) at Pan-Atlantic University (PAU) is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The school plans a series of events to bring together academics, media professionals, students, alumni, industry partners, and the wider community.

This anniversary marks two decades of the school’s contributions to media and communication education in Nigeria and Africa. Dr. Ikechukwu Obiaya, the Dean of SMC, shared that the celebrations will kick off with the Prof. Biakolo International Conference on Communication in Marriage and Family. This conference will take place on Thursday at the main campus in Ibeju, Lekki, Lagos. It aims to gather scholars and practitioners to discuss how communication plays a vital role in marriage and family life.

On October 22, the school will host a Festival of Ideas and Anniversary Cocktail. This event will celebrate the school’s journey, reflect on its impact, and discuss future priorities with alumni and industry partners. The anniversary celebrations will conclude with a Community Outreach from November 2 to 6, where staff, students, and alumni will engage in service initiatives in the local community.

Dr. Obiaya noted that this milestone not only celebrates the school’s achievements but also reaffirms its commitment to the future of media education. He emphasized that SMC has trained many media professionals who are making significant contributions across Nigeria and Africa.

Since its founding, SMC has offered various undergraduate, postgraduate, and executive programs in media and communication. The school is recognized by industry bodies for its educational offerings and has partnered with organizations to provide students with practical experiences in the field.

The anniversary serves as both a celebration and a moment of reflection, highlighting the school’s evolution over the past 20 years while anticipating the future needs of the media and communication industry. SMC invites alumni, industry partners, media members, and the public to join in the anniversary activities and celebrate two decades of education and community service.
