Ogun Indigenes in Kano Celebrate Deputy Governorship Candidate Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo
Ogun State indigenes living in Kano recently celebrated Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, the Deputy Governorship Candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming 2027 Ogun State election. The gathering took place after they learned of her visit to the city for a program.
Many indigenes expressed their gratitude for Sowunmi-Kolapo’s willingness to meet them, even adjusting her travel plans to accommodate the celebration. Alhaji Lateef Faisu Alamu, President of the Ogun State Indigenes Association in Kano, welcomed her warmly. He emphasized the importance of their connection to Ogun State and highlighted their commitment to supporting the PDP candidate.
Alamu noted that the group includes accomplished professionals such as doctors and lawyers. He raised concerns about youth employment, stating that many qualified graduates struggle to find jobs. He urged the incoming administration to prioritize this issue.
During the event, H.O. Salami, the General Secretary of the Ogun Indigenes in Kano, expressed confidence in the PDP’s success in the upcoming election, saying they would vote for her. Other attendees echoed support, chanting “Ogun for Ogun” to show their solidarity.
In her response, Sowunmi-Kolapo assured the indigenes that the PDP is dedicated to job creation and inclusive governance. She encouraged them to take an active role in the political landscape of Ogun State and to reject any attempts to undermine its autonomy.
The gathering concluded with prayers for her safe return and a commitment to mobilize support for the PDP as the election approaches.
