Nine Killed in Attacks by Suspected Herdsmen in Benue State
At least nine people have been killed in attacks by suspected armed herdsmen in the Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State. The violence occurred late Friday night in the Tse-Nyaku and Tse-Biliji communities, according to local sources.
Residents reported that the attackers came in large numbers, shooting randomly and forcing many people to flee their homes. So far, nine bodies have been recovered, but there are concerns that more residents may be missing.
One local source mentioned that a member of the armed group was found using the phone of one of the victims, raising fears about the fate of others who have not been accounted for.
Livinus Tyodoo, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the Ukum I State Constituency, condemned the attacks as “one attack too many.” He expressed deep concern over the safety of the community and called for urgent action from the government and security agencies to prevent further violence.
Tyodoo emphasized that the people of Ukum deserve to live without fear and should be able to farm and carry on with their lives in peace. He urged authorities to enhance security measures in the area and take decisive steps against those responsible for the attacks.
The police have not yet confirmed the incident, as the Police Public Relations Officer stated he had not received any reports about the violence.
