Nigerian Army Defeats ISWAP Attack in Borno, Claims 25 Terrorists Killed

The Nigerian Army has successfully defended against an attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Kukawa, Borno State. The operation resulted in the deaths of more than 25 terrorists and the recovery of weapons and ammunition.

The attack occurred when ISWAP launched a coordinated assault on troops from the 101 Special Forces Battalion from four different directions. However, the soldiers responded effectively with superior firepower and tactical maneuvers, supported by air operations.

According to Captain Mohammed Goni, the Acting Military Information Officer, preliminary assessments confirmed that at least 25 terrorists were neutralized, with 14 bodies recovered so far. Troops also found a cache of weapons, including six AK-47 rifles, during a follow-up operation.

While the military achieved significant success, some soldiers lost their lives in the encounter. The Nigerian Army expressed condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, honoring their bravery and dedication.

The Army stated that this operation showcases the combat readiness of its troops in the North-East and the effectiveness of joint operations between ground and air forces in disrupting terrorist activities. The military plans to maintain pressure on terrorists through ongoing patrols and intelligence-led operations to dismantle their networks and protect communities.
