Niger State Launches Major Highway Project to Boost Connectivity and Trade

Niger State has begun a significant highway project, as Governor Umaru Bago launched the Lambata-Bida-Mokwa highway. This project is part of a larger plan that includes 5,500 kilometers of federal road work across Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

During the ceremony, Governor Bago expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for funding major road projects in Niger State. He emphasized that this highway will connect communities and improve the movement of people and goods, which is vital for trade and economic growth.

Minister of Works, David Umahi, highlighted that Niger State alone accounts for 1,055 kilometers of the federal road projects. He described the highway as a key part of the government’s infrastructure development efforts, which will use advanced construction methods and involve the Dangote Group.

Umahi also praised Governor Bago for his commitment to building roads in the state, noting that he has completed over 300 kilometers of roads and multiple flyovers. The Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, shared that the Federal Government is investing 1.8 trillion naira in this road project, which aims to stimulate economic activities across Niger State.

The highway will stretch from Mokwa through Lambata and extend towards Kontagora, enhancing connections between communities. It is expected to improve travel times, road safety, and access to markets for local farmers and businesses.

Mansir Ahmed, a representative from the Dangote Group, stated that the highway will be built using concrete instead of asphalt, and work will start from multiple points to ensure timely completion. This project is anticipated to create economic opportunities for local businesses and young people.
