New Drone Training Centre Opens in Kaduna to Boost Local Technology Skills
The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has opened a new drone training centre in Kaduna State, Nigeria. This facility aims to enhance the country’s security and agricultural technology by developing local skills.
Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna emphasized that the centre represents an investment in innovation and economic growth. He noted that women make up at least sixty percent of the participants, which will help increase their involvement in the aviation and technology sectors.
At the launch, Governor Sani highlighted several initiatives, including the NASENI Skill Development Centre and the NASENI Sustainable Empowerment Programme. These programs aim to provide training and resources to the community, helping 500 beneficiaries across 23 local government areas with solar home systems and clean cookstoves.
The Governor stated that the UAV training centre will not only focus on technical education but also support research and innovation in various fields, including agriculture. He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support of science and technology initiatives.
The Minister of Defence, represented at the event, pointed out the risks of relying on foreign technology for security. He stressed the importance of training local personnel to improve the country’s security capabilities.
Khalil Halilu, the Executive Vice Chairman of NASENI, described the training centre as crucial for developing local technology. He mentioned that drone technology could benefit sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, and infrastructure monitoring, while also creating job opportunities for young Nigerians.
