NEMA Welcomes 180 Nigerians Back from Libya After Voluntary Return
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has welcomed 180 Nigerian returnees from Sebha, Libya. Their arrival took place on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at around 4:20 p.m. at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
This return was made possible through the Assisted Voluntary Return Programme, which is coordinated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in partnership with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) and the Federal Government.
The group included 143 adults, with 75 males and 68 females, as well as 26 children and 11 infants. Upon arrival, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) conducted biometric registration to confirm their identities and maintain accurate records.
In addition to registration, the returnees received immediate humanitarian support. This included food, clean water, medical screenings, and ambulance services for those needing medical care. They also received help with their luggage and were provided with counselling and logistical support.
Various government agencies and partners worked together to ensure the safe and dignified return of these individuals, helping them reintegrate into their communities.
