LASTMA Nabs Fleeing Togolese Driver After High-Speed Crash, Pedestrian Rushed to Hospital with Severe Injuries

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed the swift apprehension of a Togolese driver following a reckless high-speed crash on Lagos Island that left a pedestrian critically injured.

The incident, which took place on Sunday at the Adeniji Adele intersection, inward Ilubirin, involved a Mazda car with registration number EPE 749 GS. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the driver was propelling the vehicle at an unlawful velocity, losing control and brutally striking a pedestrian attempting to cross the roadway. The force of the impact left the victim sprawled and grievously injured.

In a brazen attempt to evade the consequences, the driver tried to flee the scene. However, vigilant LASTMA operatives on duty quickly gave chase and, through deft tactical maneuvering, successfully apprehended the fugitive motorist.

Emergency responders from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), promptly activated by LASTMA personnel, conveyed the severely injured pedestrian to the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, where urgent treatment is being administered.

The apprehended suspect has since been transferred into the custody of officers at the Adeniji Adele Police Division for comprehensive interrogation and subsequent prosecution. LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, strongly condemned the reckless behavior, reiterating the agency’s commitment to protecting lives and ensuring orderliness across the state’s transportation corridors, while warning all motorists against the dangers of overspeeding.
