“Lamido explains how Tinubu defied the odds to become president”

Former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido, has described President Bola Tinubu as a bold and skillful politician who navigated Nigeria’s political landscape to secure the presidency despite strong opposition. In an interview with the Nigerian Tribune, Lamido, a chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said Tinubu effectively manipulated the political system to his advantage.

According to Lamido, Tinubu’s declaration in Abeokuta that it was his turn to lead Nigeria demonstrated his confidence. He noted that even though former President Muhammadu Buhari, who had reservations about Tinubu and preferred Senate President Ahmed Lawan, couldn’t enforce his choice, Tinubu still triumphed at the All Progressives Congress (APC) convention.

Lamido emphasized that Tinubu’s victory did not come from Buhari or key political groups like Afenifere or former President Obasanjo. Instead, Tinubu’s determination and strategic approach allowed him to overcome numerous obstacles.

During a separate function, Tinubu was quoted as saying he funded his election campaign with his personal resources and credited his victory to divine intervention. He explained that despite financial challenges, including difficulties accessing funds, he trusted in God’s guidance.

Lamido also discussed the PDP’s prospects for 2027, acknowledging the difficulty in challenging Tinubu, who holds significant influence over Nigeria’s political and economic spheres. He warned that Tinubu’s political strength, self-made status, and dominance would pose a serious challenge to any opposition.
