Lagos Vows to Arrest Fake Parking Operators in Computer Village After Uncovering ₦1,000 Extortion Scam

The Lagos State Government has declared war on illegal parking “tax collectors” who have been terrorizing motorists in the busy Computer Village area of Ikeja. On Wednesday, March 18, 2026, the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) issued a stern warning to syndicates to stop their illegal activities or face the full weight of the law.

The General Manager of LASPA, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, revealed that fraudsters have been working with touts to collect unauthorized fees of up to ₦1,000 per vehicle. Many unsuspecting drivers pay this money thinking they are safe, only to return and find their number plates removed or their cars towed by official enforcement teams. “These illicit activities are a disservice to the public and an embarrassment to the state,” Adelabu said in a statement.

To “flip the script” on these scammers, LASPA has intensified its monitoring and enforcement operations across the Ikeja business district. The agency clarified that no other group, including the Lagos Central Business District or local “area boys” has the legal right to regulate parking.

Motorists and visitors to Computer Village are advised to be vigilant and only deal with LASPA-registered operators who can provide valid identification and official government receipts. The government is urging the public to report any suspicious individuals claiming to be parking officials to help clean up the state’s parking system and reduce traffic congestion.
