Lagos to Host 2025 Best of Nollywood Awards, Aims for Guinness World Record

Lagos State is poised to host the 2025 Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards, with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu officially accepting the hosting rights. The formal presentation took place at the Lagos House, Marina, where the governor received a delegation of Nollywood’s finest, including Segun Arinze, Biola Adebayo, and Femi Branch, alongside BON Awards founder, Seun Oloketuyi.

The 17th edition of the prestigious event is scheduled for Sunday, December 14, 2025, at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, marking a significant homecoming for the awards. Mr. Oloketuyi noted that while the awards began in Lagos, they have since traveled to all six geo-political zones of the country over the last 17 years, making this return a strategic move to solidify Lagos as the true heart of Nigeria’s creative economy.

In his address, Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the organizers for their vision and ambition, particularly their plan to attempt a Guinness World Record for the longest red carpet, which is expected to span an impressive 8 kilometres. The governor reiterated the Lagos State Government’s commitment to providing more than just financial support to the creative sector. He emphasized that the state’s involvement is driven by a vision to elevate the industry and use it as a powerful engine for economic growth.

“We are also very intentional about helping the creative industry give opportunities and voices to the voiceless that may not get the opportunity to be heard,” the governor stated, adding that the sector is a key pillar in the government’s broader agenda for employment generation and wealth creation for a large demographic of young people.

The event is expected to attract a wide array of industry practitioners, film enthusiasts, and international guests, providing a grand stage to celebrate the best of Nigerian cinema and further solidify the nation’s creative influence on the global stage.
