Lagos State Trains 1,800 Law Enforcement Officers to Enhance Service

The Lagos State Government has trained 1,800 law enforcement officers from seven different agencies. This training aims to improve professionalism and service delivery, especially as discussions about establishing state police in Nigeria continue. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced this during a graduation ceremony on Thursday at the Lagos State Law Enforcement Training Institute.

Sanwo-Olu, represented by Attorney-General Lawal Pedro, emphasized that effective law enforcement is vital for good governance and creating a safe environment for everyone, including residents and businesses. He stated that officers must be well-trained and guided by clear standards to perform their duties effectively.

The governor highlighted five key principles for law enforcement officers: discipline, integrity, respect for the law, professionalism, and accountability. He encouraged the officers to earn public trust through responsible behavior and fair treatment of citizens. Sanwo-Olu also reminded residents to follow lawful directives and report any concerns through the right channels.

Mrs. Taiwo Bonnie, the Head and Chief Executive Officer of the training institute, noted that the graduates came from various agencies, including the Vehicle Inspection Service and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority. She explained that the training focused on enhancing the officers’ skills in areas such as technology, teamwork, and health management.

Bonnie congratulated the graduates and urged them to apply what they learned in their roles. She stressed that their conduct would reflect the true value of their training and contribute to building a safer Lagos State. The training is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen law enforcement and improve service across the region.
