Lagos Governorship Candidate Criticizes Tear Gas Use at #EndSARS Anniversary

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the African Democratic Party’s candidate for the Lagos governorship election in 2027, has spoken out against the use of tear gas during the sixth anniversary of the #EndSARS protests at the Lekki Toll Gate.

In an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Rhodes-Vivour criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government for what he described as a lack of empathy towards Nigerians affected by the protests. He highlighted that many lives were lost during the October 2020 protests against police brutality.

Rhodes-Vivour stated, “They are normalising this bullying system of governance that has come to describe what the APC government has become.” He emphasized the need for a government that acknowledges the tragedy of that day and understands the impact on innocent citizens.

His comments come as the country reflects on the events of the #EndSARS protests and the ongoing challenges faced by citizens in Nigeria.
