Lagos APC Aims for Five Million Votes in 2027 Elections with New Strategy

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State is aiming for five million votes in the upcoming 2027 general elections. This target is part of a larger goal of seven million votes expected for the state. The party announced this at a campaign retreat on Monday at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos.

Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, the state APC Chairman, introduced a new strategy called “Operation Deliver Your Polling Unit.” This plan assigns specific electoral duties to party leaders and officials at all levels of government. The initiative aims to boost grassroots support and ensure that party members contribute effectively to the APC’s goals.

With just over two months until the elections, Ojelabi emphasized the urgency of the retreat, encouraging members to turn their plans into action. He noted that the party’s strong local structures and networks could help achieve their voting target, but these resources must be used to engage voters effectively.

Ojelabi explained that each local government area, council, and polling unit will have clear responsibilities and targets. He instructed local party chairmen to gather information on polling units linked to party leaders and officials. This will help identify areas needing more support and evaluate the contributions of political actors.

He also highlighted the importance of understanding local political conditions when assessing polling unit performance. Ojelabi urged party leaders to strengthen their connections with their communities, stating that political success relies on building trust and relationships.

In addition, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda called for unity among party members in Lagos. He acknowledged the party’s previous loss in the state and stressed the need for a strong campaign to secure victory in 2027. Yilwatda encouraged members to reconcile differences and support the party’s candidates.

Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, the Director-General of the PBAT-KOH Campaign Council, also spoke at the retreat, emphasizing the need for discipline and strategic planning for electoral success. The APC’s governorship candidate, Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, discussed the government’s PROMISE agenda during the event.
