Kebbi Police Nab Suspected Cattle Rustler, Recover Stolen Cows and Vehicle
The Kebbi State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in its fight against cattle rustling, announcing the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of stolen cattle and a vehicle used in the crime. The arrest, which took place in the Suru Local Government Area, is the result of an intelligence-led operation aimed at dismantling criminal networks in the state.
According to a statement from the State Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Abubakar, a police patrol team intercepted a vehicle carrying two cows, and the driver, identified as Basiru Abdullahi, was immediately apprehended. Upon questioning, Abdullahi confessed to his involvement in the theft of three cows and implicated four other suspects who are currently on the run.
The police statement further revealed that the two recovered cows were part of a larger theft from a herder named Sarkin Fulani Usman. The criminal syndicate had already sold the stolen animals for a sum of ₦500,000, and the investigation is now focused on tracking down the other members of the gang and recovering the rest of the stolen property.
A green Toyota vehicle, a key piece of evidence used in the crime, was also recovered from the suspect. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Birnin Kebbi for a more thorough investigation. The State Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, praised the officers for their swift and professional action and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring peace and security for all residents of Kebbi State.
