Governor Yusuf and Kwankwaso Camps Clash as Rumors of ‘Big Jump’ to APC Tear NNPP Apart; Is the Kwankwasiyya Dynasty Collapsing?

The political “marriage” that redefined Kano politics is reportedly hitting the rocks. In a development that has sent shockwaves through the ancient city, the camps of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the National Leader of the NNPP, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, are reportedly at war over a rumored plan by the Governor to dump his party for the APC.

For months, whispers of Governor Yusuf’s “secret talks” with the Presidency and APC leadership have filled the air, but things reached a boiling point this week. Sources say the Governor is seeking a more “secure” platform to protect his seat and ensure his reelection in 2027, but the move has not sat well with Kwankwaso’s loyalists.

The streets of Kano have witnessed heated arguments and minor skirmishes between the two factions, as the red-capped Kwankwasiyya members accuse the Governor’s “loyalists” of planning to sell out their movement. “Abba was made by Kwankwaso, and moving to the APC would be the ultimate betrayal,” one angry supporter shouted during a gathering.

On the other side, supporters of the Governor argue that he needs to be “his own man” and align with the center to bring more development to Kano. While the Governor’s office has not yet released a formal statement confirming the defection, the silence from both sides has only fueled the fire of uncertainty.

As the two camps retreat to their corners to plan their next moves, Kano remains a political tinderbox. If the defection happens, it would be one of the biggest political realignments in Nigeria’s history, potentially ending the NNPP’s dominance in the North’s most populous state.
