Governor Eno Offers Support to Family of Deceased Corps Member Etimbuk Daniel

Umo Eno, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, visited the family of the late Etimbuk Daniel, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and former president of the Students’ Union Government at Akwa Ibom State University. The visit took place in Ikot Etim, Ukanafun Local Government Area, as a personal gesture of condolence.

The governor’s visit followed an earlier delegation sent by his office on October 13, 2026. Eno expressed his sadness over Daniel’s passing and emphasized that the family would receive support from the state government during this difficult time.

During the visit, Eno recalled meeting Daniel on several occasions and described him as a bright young man with great potential. Daniel’s father, Daniel Sunday, expressed gratitude for the governor’s personal visit, noting that the family had not anticipated such a gesture after receiving condolences from the earlier delegation.

Meanwhile, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) is investigating the circumstances surrounding Daniel’s death at the NYSC orientation camp in Awgu, Enugu State. Reports suggest that his death may be linked to substandard or falsified medicines.

NAFDAC Director-General Mojisola Adeyeye urged caution in drawing conclusions about the cause of death while investigations are ongoing. Preliminary information indicated that Daniel had severe malaria symptoms and a history of peptic ulcer disease before his condition worsened.

Despite resuscitation efforts at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Daniel did not survive. NAFDAC’s initial assessment suggested acute kidney injury due to severe dehydration and shock as potential causes of death. However, they stated that it was unclear if the medications given to him played a role.

As part of their investigation, NAFDAC officials visited the camp clinic, spoke with medical staff, and collected medicine samples for further testing. The agency plans to take additional regulatory actions based on the investigation’s findings.
