FG Pushes Seamless Rail, Road, and Water Transport Network

The Federal Government has emphasized the need for a comprehensive overhaul of the nation’s transportation architecture, calling for an integrated, multimodal system to lower heavy logistics expenses, improve trade flow, and attract vital private capital into the economy.

The position was outlined during the 19th National Council on Transportation, where the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan—represented by Dr. Ishaku Musa—described transportation as the critical foundation driving modern commerce and national productivity. He noted that a reliable transport network plays a direct role in connecting communities, facilitating the seamless haulage of goods, expanding market reach, and powering industrial expansion.

Highlighting the economic benefits of linking road, railway, maritime, and aviation routes, Enitan explained that an interconnected logistics chain would eliminate severe distribution bottlenecks. According to him, reducing freight delays and transit friction will directly cut operational overheads for Nigerian businesses, make local exports more competitive regionally and globally, and create new commercial opportunities across key economic sectors.

The Head of Service stressed that creating an efficient transit ecosystem goes beyond physical construction projects. He pointed out that establishing a resilient, sustainable, and technology-driven system requires strong regulatory frameworks, reliable data collection, digital innovation, enhanced synergy between federal and state governments, and continuous capacity building for sector personnel.

Urging delegates, transport regulators, and private operators at the council to focus on actionable outcomes, Enitan maintained that the true value of the gathering will be measured not by policy declarations, but by the extent to which strategic recommendations are turned into real programmes and reforms that deliver cheaper, safer, and more accessible mobility for all Nigerians.
