Federal Government Unveils Abuja’s First Smart Police Station to Enhance Community Policing and Security
In a significant move to modernize Nigeria’s law enforcement infrastructure, the Federal Government has inaugurated a state-of-the-art smart police station in Katampe, Abuja. This initiative aims to bolster internal security and improve community policing within the Federal Capital Territory.
Constructed by the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) and officially handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, the facility is equipped with advanced features, including 24/7 CCTV surveillance, a 30-kilowatt off-grid solar power system, and overhead water tanks to ensure uninterrupted operations. The station also includes perimeter fencing and modern amenities designed to enhance the working conditions of police personnel.
During the commissioning ceremony, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs, Dr. Anuma Ogbonnaya Nlia, representing the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening internal security and fostering trust between the police and the communities they serve. He stated, “This facility stands as a beacon of hope, a pledge of protection, and a commitment to service delivery at the grassroots.”
The Executive Secretary of the NPTF, Mohammed Sheidu, highlighted the project’s significance, noting that it serves as a “mission statement for nation-building.” He announced plans to construct residential quarters for six rank-and-file officers to improve their welfare and morale.
This smart police station is part of a broader initiative to replicate similar facilities across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, reflecting the Federal Government’s dedication to enhancing the capabilities of the Nigeria Police Force in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Community leaders and residents have welcomed the development, expressing optimism that the modern facility will lead to more effective policing and a safer environment for all.
