Atiku, El-Rufai, Ayu, and Other Political Heavyweights Pay Congratulatory Visit to Newly Crowned Olubadan, Oba Ladoja

A high-profile delegation of prominent Nigerian political figures, led by former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, paid a courtesy and congratulatory visit to the newly installed Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, on Tuesday at the monarch’s Bodija residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The delegation included former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, former Governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke, and former Senate President, Senator Iyorcha Ayu. The visit follows the historic coronation of Oba Ladoja, who is also a former Governor of Oyo State as the 44th Olubadan last Friday, September 26, 2025.

Speaking during the visit, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar described the monarch’s ascension as “historic” and “unique,” expressing hope that Ibadanland would witness an era of peace and unprecedented development under his leadership. Atiku formalized the visit by presenting a letter of congratulation to the traditional ruler.

In his response, Oba Ladoja expressed his appreciation for the gesture from the national political figures. The Olubadan restated his commitment to serving the people, vowing to use his reign and the rest of his life to serve Ibadan people, Oyo State, Yorubaland, and Nigeria at large. He promised to be a monarch for all, ensuring fairness and justice in the ancient city.

The convergence of political leaders from across the national spectrum to greet the new Olubadan underscores the unique influence of the Ibadan traditional stool and the enduring relevance of traditional institutions in Nigeria’s political landscape.
