APC Stakeholders in Ekiti Demand Review of Candidate Toyin Okoro’s Eligibility

APC Stakeholders in Ekiti Demand Review of Candidate Toyin Okoro’s Eligibility

As the 2027 general election approaches, some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ise-Orun Local Government Area of Ekiti have protested. They are calling for a review of the eligibility of their candidate, Engr. Toyin Okoro, for the Ekiti South-West/Ikere/Ise-Orun Federal Constituency.

The protesters raised concerns about Okoro’s past employment as a Senior Legislative Aide to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and his private business interests while in public service. They also mentioned an ongoing investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Stephen Ogunjemilua, speaking on behalf of the group, emphasized the need for the party to verify Okoro’s employment and resignation status through official records before moving forward with his nomination. They argued that it is important to establish the facts rather than rely on hearsay.

The stakeholders pointed out that Okoro’s reported employment status and any resignation should be clarified, as the law requires public servants to resign at least 30 days before an election if they wish to run for office. They also raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest related to Okoro’s private business dealings during his time in public service.

Despite these concerns, Toyin Okoro was selected as the APC candidate for the House of Representatives seat. The campaign council for Okoro defended him, stating that he is a law-abiding citizen with no criminal record. They urged the public to ignore the allegations against him, claiming he has properly addressed the ICPC’s inquiries.

The council also stated that Okoro had resigned from his position as Managing Director of a private company before taking on the role of Senior Legislative Aide, asserting that he followed all legal requirements.
