Akwa Ibom Governor, Udom Emmanuel
APC Media Group Condemns PDP’s Allegations Against Akpabio Over Ex-Gov Emmanuel’s Arrest Reports
The Akwa Ibom All Progressives Congress (APC) Media Network has strongly criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for alleging that Senate President Godswill Akpabio was behind media reports on the alleged arrest of former Governor Udom Emmanuel by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Describing the PDP’s claims as baseless, malicious, and a propaganda stunt aimed at damaging Akpabio’s reputation, the APC media group dismissed the accusations in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja.
Reacting to the PDP’s statement, the Director-General of the APC media group, Otuekong Iniobong John, challenged the opposition party to clarify whether Udom Emmanuel was indeed invited by the EFCC before making unfounded allegations.
“The APC Media Network is compelled to address the defamatory allegations made by PDP’s factional National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, against Senate President Godswill Akpabio,” John stated.
He emphasized that the EFCC’s mandate is to investigate and prosecute financial crimes, making it misleading for the PDP to claim that Akpabio orchestrated reports on Emmanuel’s invitation.
“Senator Akpabio has no involvement in disseminating news about Emmanuel’s EFCC invitation. As Senate President, his focus remains on legislative responsibilities, not on petty political distractions,” the statement added.
The APC media group further accused the PDP of acting in the interest of the Akwa Ibom State Government, arguing that the allegations were politically motivated.
“It is clear that the PDP’s press release was conceived and sponsored by the PDP-led government in Akwa Ibom State. Some tribal bigots have been falsely claiming that Akpabio was behind the petition against Emmanuel. However, a respected PDP elder, Rt. Hon. Chief Ndueso Essien, has publicly confirmed that Akpabio had no involvement,” the statement noted.
The APC group condemned what it called an attempt to mislead the public and smear Akpabio’s image, urging Nigerians to see through the PDP’s “cheap propaganda” and hold the party accountable for its misinformation.
