Angry Abia Women Besiege Police Headquarters to Protest ‘Indiscriminate’ Youth Arrests; Declares Orji Uzor Kalu Unwelcome in Ohafia Over Alleged Betrayal

The commercial and political atmosphere in Abia State “flipped the script” today, as hundreds of mothers from Ohafia staged a “Tsunami” of protests against the security situation in their community. The “Solution” to the rising insecurity in the Southeast has, according to these women, become a nightmare of “Drill or Drop” raids where innocent youths are allegedly being snatched from their beds.

The “Renewed Hope” for peace in the “digital trenches” of Abia North was shattered this morning as the women blocked major access roads leading to the Police Zone 9 Headquarters. They claimed that the constant “tinkering” with community security has led to a situation where young men are afraid to walk the streets for fear of being labeled “insurgents.” “Our sons are not terrorists; they are farmers and students,” one of the lead protesters cried out, while others chanted songs of mourning.

The protest also took a sharp political turn as the women aimed their anger at Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. They alleged that the Senator’s previous comments labeling Ohafia an “IPOB zone” had invited the current wave of military intimidation and voter harassment. By declaring him “persona non grata,” the women are signaling that the 2027 political calculations will be heavily influenced by how the government handles these “indiscriminate” arrests.

As the police used teargas to disperse the crowd earlier today, the tension in Umuahia remains high. While the military maintains that its operations are targeted only at “criminal elements,” the mothers of Ohafia insist that the net is being cast too wide. For the average resident of Abia, the message today is one of deep-seated frustration: until the government can distinguish between agitators and innocent citizens, the “confidence gap” in the Southeast will only continue to grow.
